East Falls House Tour 25th Anniversary
This last weekend there was a terrific tour of old house in East Falls. The tour included visits to:
3400 Midvale Avenue
This block of Tudor Revival Cottages forms the “Tudor East Falls Historic District”. The 210 houses were designed by architect Henry T. MacNeill and built between 1925 to 1931. The typical roof repairs performed on these homes are to the slate roof, half round gutters and chimney masonry.
3580 Indian Queen Lane
The foundation for this former Methodist Church was laid in 1872 and is currently being converted to office space. The church originally had slate roof with a shelf gutter.
3582 Indian Queen Lane
This was the Methodist Church Parsonage and was abandoned for years. Currently this is a residence. This structure also had a slate roof.
4153 Apalogen Road
This house was built in 1952 for Joseph Lieberman, one of the original developer, in a development known as “School Lane Hills”. Occasional repairs to these homes are new roofs, gutters, siding and windows.
3432 Warden Drive
Most of the homes on this street were built in the mi-to-late 1920’s as the “English Village” by Mike McCrudden on the land once occupied by the brewery dam. Home maintenance on the homes includes roof repair, gutters, chimney repair and carpentry repair.
5550 Wissahickon Avenue, Alden Park
The land for Alden park was part of the Strawbridge Estate and was the first apartment complex in the country to built in a park like setting.
We were a sponsor of the East Falls House Tour and provided refreshments at 3580 Indian Queen Lane. Many of Chuck’s friends and clients stopped by to chat.
Excel Roofing installs new roofs, gutters, trim, siding and windows. We repair slate roofs, tile roofs, metal roofs and flat roofs. We replace pole gutters and shelf gutters. We repair chimney crowns, chimney pointing and chimney flashings.
